Early Career and Rookie Status

Steve Garvey began his professional baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1969. He spent the majority of his career with the Dodgers, playing 14 seasons with the team. Garvey was a highly touted prospect and made an immediate impact on the Dodgers' lineup.

National League MVP Award

In 1974, Garvey had a breakout season, winning the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award. He batted .312 with 120 RBIs and 21 home runs. Garvey's performance helped lead the Dodgers to the World Series, where they ultimately fell to the Oakland Athletics.

Move to the San Diego Padres

After leaving the Dodgers in 1983, Garvey joined the San Diego Padres. He played five seasons with the Padres, where he continued to perform at a high level. Garvey finished his career with 2,599 hits, 272 home runs, and 1,308 RBIs.
